Getting ready for ConDFW

The Texas Speculative Fiction Association presents the sixth year of ConDFW, a literary convention specializing in the genres of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. This year’s convention will be held February 23-25, 2007 at the Radisson Hotel Dallas North in Richardson, TX.
Honored guests at this year’s ConDFW include popular authors and artists in the field who will sit on a number of guest panels, read from their recent works, sign autographs, and be available for casual conversation with convention attendees. The Guest of Honor is the Hugo award-winning Harry Turtledove, dubbed ‘The Master of Alternate History’ and author of the Worldwar series and Guns of the South. Also featured are Emma Bull, a pioneering author in urban fantasy (War for the Oaks), and the fantasy and comic-book author Will Shetterly (Dogland). The Artist Guest of Honor is Bob Eggleton, winner of nine Hugo and 12 Chesley awards.
Returning to ConDFW are Steven Brust, author of the New York Times bestseller Dzur, Robert Asprin, author of the MythAdventures series and co-founder of the Thieves’ World series, and fan favorite John Steakley, author of Vampire$ and Armor.
Local and regional guests returning include Lillian Stewart Carl, David Cherry, Bill Crider, Carole Nelson Douglas, P.N. Elrod, and Martha Wells.
Convention activities include panels by industry pros about the business of writing science fiction and fantasy, working with independent presses, and thought-provoking discussions about trends in genre writing. For the fans, there will be Q&A sessions with their favorite guests on a variety of topics.
Fans can also enjoy visiting the Dealers’ Room to purchase rare books, t-shirts, games, costumes, and other collectibles. The Art Show features artists from around the country and attendees may view and purchase these science fiction and fantasy works. Throughout the convention, a Book Swap is available for readers to donate and exchange their used books for others; the final collection of books will be donated to a local public library. Gaming sessions will be held the entire weekend and include board and card games, role-playing games, and historic wargames.
Convention memberships start at $15 for a one-day membership and can be purchased on-site. For more information, please visit http://www.condfw.org or call Dan Robb at 972.841.4782.
